Can Anyone tell me the best process for painting a internationl tractor and the best paint to use? I am painting red over yellow.

Is there something I can use with a power washer
in order to get the paint to stick well over the
yellow paint.

Also this is the first time for painting a tractor. Thanks

Unfortunatly cheap paint is worth only what you pay for it --and not much more. Figure the cost of the whole job, stripping, priming, thinners, not to mention whatever restoration work has been done, I figure all but the most expensive paint is not all that expensive. It is a lot harder to get a good looking job with cheap paint too.
Mostly I'm just too d--- lazy to do a job twice.

Surface preparation is essential. No grease or oil. Sand, buff or what ever to give the new paint something to stick to. Books on car painting at the auto parts stores, book stores, or library should give you some guidelines. NAPA, Case IH and paint supply stores have the origional Farmall red. (DuPont 7410AH is one) Krylon spray paint in the can has a Farmall red too. Might be handy for touch up or where a spray gun is difficult.

Is the Krylon in the can any good?
I've thought about painting the Super M like Red did with Corey's H, but I haven't been able to find his brand of paint. (okay I haven't looked hard)

I used Krylon on the Lady Farmall. It isn't something I would use on a good tractor. It discolors (fades, mostly) when attacked by gas or coolant, and I have had both types of leaks. It also water spots real bad. I used a different brand, Zynolyte, for the wheels. It is represented on the can as a one-part epoxy, and seems to stand up much better, but takes forever to dry. The Krylon would probably be okay with a overcoat of clear one-part epoxy.

Good point on "how will it stand the test of time". Although that guys A looked good now, how will it look a few years from now? When my Super-A needs paint, i'll be doing an automotive quality job on it. Im sure the cans will come in handy somewhere though.

IH/Case paint is very good paint, local IH/Case dealer has it in Spray cans or by the gallon. Have used on my 340 and A's and has no fade that i can see, seems to be resttant to oil and watre and fuel which I spill on the old girl every time I put fuel in her. They have it in silver and Red along with primer and thiner

At the last tractor show I went to here in TX I saw an A that the owner said he painted using spray paint from a can. It looked real good, I couldnt believe it was from a can! I didnt think to ask what brand. He must have spent a lot of time doing it, taking care and buffing between coats. No doubt it was several carefully layed down coats.

I use the BPS brand of paint, from Tractor Supply. The gal. runs about $20 and mixes with the cheap paint thinner $2 a gal. for spraying. It holds up good, I used it on my fert. spreader 5 years ago it still hasn't faded. They also make spray cans that are good they run about $2.50. I've used the spray cans on equip. but not on tractors yet. I use degreaser on the cast stuff, get it clean, but the only thing I sand is the sheet metal. It's worked good for me. Jeff

Can you tell me where to get this paint? The stuff I used cost twice that, from a local equipment dealer. The good stuff at the auto parts store was $60 a gallon, and $18 for the hardener. The really good stuff at the auto parts store was over $200 a gallon, plus the activator. My F12 came out ok, but not as good as I am used to with the really good stuff I use on the antique cars I do for other people.
