Some charging system troubleshooting on a 5288...

Third Party Image

How would history have been written if these could have been introduced before it was too late for the company?

2 things hurt this tractor at the time it was new. 1. rural economy. 2. most other competitors in the same league (feelings aside) had a powershift. had the tractor line come 5 years earlier....wow. now my opinion: with a farmall/ih;why do you need a powershift? put it in gear and go. even with a non functional ta they work hard and can stay in the same gear all day in nearly all variating conditions.

One more thing that hurt those tractors was they hinged the doors on the wrong side. I can't understand to this day why they engineered them that way. When a prospective buyer looked at one on the lot and had to fight that backwards door I'am sure it cost many sales.
