Was the 656 farmall the biggest "utility" type tractor IH made? The one's I've been able to find on fastline.com almost all say hydro trans, was that an option, or standard on the 656 utility? Thanks much for any help. BigART

I got one, it is not a hydro, standard shift. it has 5 speeds and 2 ranges, and it is a utility format. My friend has a 706 that isn"t a hydro also

I own a 1965 656D Utility. Not sure of the history or production of these, but I can tell you that mine is not a hydro transmission. Standard five speed with a T/A. 282 Diesel engine. I have seen several 656 tractors. Only differences I can see between field & utility models are the "set back" front axle and stamped steel wheels on the utility.

Thanks, I've found a suprising no. of 656, 666 and even 686 gas models, but my knees are 'long gone' and the utility would be much more friendly in terms of getting on and off the little fellar!! Lookin ' to build a farm stock puller, and either model would be easy (wt wise) to haul. BigART
