I removed the Unviversal joint, and that ONE center bolt in the shaft coupler going into the tranny. I imagine I just pull like the dickens and that bearing comes out.
Or must I remove the drive shaft COMPLETELY to allow enough room.

i.e. unbolt from the clutch side too. I don't want to do that if not necessary.

The bearing will slide out, I push the rod back a few inches, then pull out the top of the tranny cover, replace the roller bearing, slide on my new gears, and reverse the process?

You can't pull the shaft out of the bearing, the transmission drive main dirve gear and shaft are all one piece. You need to take the bearing and it's housing completely out, and you can't do that until the clutch shaft is out of the way. By the way, you didn't need to take that one bolt off, you can remove the drive shaft with that part of the joint still on...
