I have been on this site for nearly a year and alot of people have become friends. Some provide entertainment while others provide great photos. Just wondering where you are from and what your REAL job is or do you rely on farming for income. It is really neat to see so many people sharing information about farming and tractors from different parts of the world. I am located in Green Bay Wis. and I am a machinist by night and a hobbist by day. 8) Have a good day.

hey Brad. Great idea. I am 24 years old, I live in Strafford,NH. I have a 200 that my dad bought for me. I don't farm, however my father-in-law has a dairy farm that I used to help out on (thats where I met my wife), and I occassionally still milk the cows. My parents have a few cows and some horses, as well as pigs 'seasonally'! My full time job is a Service Manager at a heavy equipment repair shop, and on the weekends I am at my parents either haying, or in the spring boiling maple syrup.

Hi guys, my name is Lou Rathbun and I have lived near Moscow, Idaho for the past 30 odd years. I was raised on a farm about 30 miles from here and started helping my dad on the farm by driving an HG Cletrac when I was about 8 or so. Attended the University of Idaho and graduated in '58 then elisted in the Air Force and spent most of my enlistment at Holloman AFB at Alamogordo, NM. Eventually moved to Moscow, Id. and worked 30 years at the University of Idaho as a mechanic. Have been retired 10 years and enjoyed every minute of it. I have a '43 H I restored two years ago, a '53 Super C that is just about finished restoring and have a '51 Cub that I will start on next spring. I'm 70, live by myself with 4 dogs--1 Saluki, two Afghan hounds, and a Borzoi so never a dull moment around here.

Long life and prosperity to you all. lr

HI I grew up in western Pa. on 20 acres. First tractor I ever drove was an LA John Deere. After that spent a lot of time on a 300 utility
without power steering. I am now living in Florida and this year moved out so I now have almost 2 acres. I am 49 now will be 50 this year. I have a 530ck Case that I mow with it is definately a work in progress it is painted camoflauge. I am not sure if it can ever be restored right but it works good. The 300 utility is still in Pa. Dad said he was going to sell it I said I wanted it he said ok. My grandfather bought it new It was suposed to have been the first one in Butler County Pa.
I have been hunting parts up for it. That will be a project. Rob Baird Umatilla Florida

Hey Brad, My name is Stan Kindig and I am a maintenance engineer for an air conditioning manufacturer in Tyler, Texas. 43 years old and live on 3 acres with my wife and two daughters. I Grew up in a vineyard near Bakersfield, California and came to Texas to attend college. Liked the area well enough to stay. I help my Dad (who moved here 13 yrs. ago) raise cattle and do hay work. I currently have a '51 Farmall H scattered all over my shop that I hope to neatly add live hydraulics to for a Saginaw 3-point.

Another IH fan from down under, this time NZ.
Coming up 75 years old. Raised on my Dad"s 90 acre dairy farm, when as a teenager I put in many a happy hour driving a Super A and then an H, but I was more interested in machinery than milking cows. Served an apprenticeship as a fitter and turner (machinist) then spent 5 years at sea as an engineer with a British company trading mainly with ports on the US and Canadian eastern seaboard so saw some of both the big cities and the small isolated paper mill towns.
Quit the sea when I got married and then spent 25 years as a plant engineer at a large milk processing factory. Retired in "88. Have only a ¼ acre out in a rural area so the only opportunity of working my tractors is at the annual plowing, sledge pull and haymaking days that are held by the local vintage machinery club. I did have a "54 Super A-1, a"43 H and a "35 F-12, but for health reasons I have had to downsize the collection and now only have a "48 W4 and a "51 Super C, with a #5 Little Genius plow and a 21-C mower. The W4 will be the next to go.
I thought I knew a lot about the Letter Series tractors but there is always something new coming up. It has been quite interesting to learn about the diverse backgounds and occupations of the people who contribute to this site and the wealth of knowledge that they share with others.

Sid.

Married to a Kentucky girl with a 6 year old boy and a 4 month old baby girl. My Grandmother who died in '96 always said I was born 50 years too late. She's where I got my love of the ground. I have a certificate She and my Grandfather were awarded by the State in 1944 for "..producing on the farm and conserving for home use at least seventy-five percent of their food and feed requirements. I have a '27 Regular restored, a '35 F-12 restored, a '49 Cub and H in their work clothes and a '58 240 ute. All these on 2 acres currently. Can you say "Tractor-poor?" Great thread, Brad. I'd like to add to it. Am 59 and live in Linn Township, just outside Lake Geneva, Wisconsin. B.S. Speech from Northwestern University. Drafted in '69 and spent a tour in Republic of Korea. Worked at WBBM-TV, KSFY-TV, an ad agency, several manufacturing advertising departments and my own advertising business. Now semi-retired. Wife, Susie, is a registered nurse, originally from Indiana. Been married 31 years but who's counting? We have a 26-year old daughter, Kristin, who married a Scotsman (in the West Highlands) a month ago. Paul Macdonald is a swordmaker and historical fencing master. They're both here now...we're holding a "U.S. Reception" in our yard TODAY. Have a '53 Super M and not much time lately to spend with it. No livestock except a 14-year-old cat named Hannah and a sweet German Shorthair named Emma. Learned to drive tractor on a '44 H on my gradfather's 80-acre farm. Hello to all!

Just discovered this website this week, great bio's. Began adult initiation in '71 when nominated to Annapolis, but couldn't do the math. Enlisted in the Navy in '73 Did two years on Okinawa, came home to finish BA in Russian at U. of Washington. Worked in Seattle, then relocated to Spokane in '03 on a ten-acre remnant of an old dairy farm with the old farmhouse. Bought a '54 Farmall Super C from an estate liquidation just over a year ago, which will need rebuilding soon. Married 16 years, no kids, but my wife has six horses, a mule & goat, two dogs and various cats. Looking forward to learning lots and begging for advice when I replace the seals on the hydraulics.

Lived most of my life on the fourth or fifth generation Ropte farm near Humboldt, IA. Joined the Air Force in 1967 and spent six wonderful years at Ramstein AB, Germany as an Air Traffic Controller in the Approach Control facility. I loved the Air Force and the job!! After seven years I got married and enrolled at Grace College in Winona Lake, IN. I graduated in 1979 with a BA in Biblical Studies and a Minor in Greek and Hebrew Languages. While attending college I worked for Chore-time Brock and UPS. I've spent almost 20 years in various Air Guard units as an Air Traffic Controller until I retired from the Iowa Air Guard in 2001. I've also worked for Sprint United Telephone in the Distribution Center in Warsaw, IN. In 1991 I became the Airport Manager for the Warsaw Municipal Airport and in 1998 I moved back to the family farm after the passing of Dad at age 90. I've lived on the farm ever since and will become the sole owner of the acreage and about 15 additional acres next Spring. The farm was purchased from the original homesteaders in 1881. I've been married to my wonderful wife for 31 years and we have 2 girls and 4 boys and finally a grandson this passed year. The Lord has really blessed our family beyond all our expectations. I have Dad's old 560 diesel and another 560 diesel I bought a few years ago. I plan to get Dad's 1940 M which he bought new if my brother will part with it. We still have Dad's 606 & 1066. I raise Suffolk sheep and plan to start a small Cow/calf operation next year. My other job is an Orientation Instructor for a large trucking company and my wife teaches at a Christian school.

I"m 34 years old, married for 13 years with 2 sons, 6 and 2. I"m active duty in the Navy for the past 14 years, and am stationed at NAS Lemoore in California, and live in Hanford, waiting for my house to get finished in Visalia, hopefully in October.
Once the house is done and we are settled, I can move my "46 H that I bought thanks to the help of you fine people. I plan on restoring it to better than new status and using is for Shows and Parades. A good project to do for my oldest son and I.
Plus I will be the only one in my neighborhood with a tractor in the garage! :)

Discovering this conversation, on Farmalls and all things farming, when I did, was great. Tractors: B, H, 400, 674. Seems like I turn to the 400 and 674 more (power steering I guess) but the others still get work.

Born and raised in south central Missouri on a 400 acre farm there that had lots of ozark rocks. Went to college at Rolla (there are lots of Haas's there ) and earned a Chemical Engineering degree there. US army and then to work for a large Chemical company in Eastern Tennessee where I now live. Much of my career was Project engineering on large chemical plants. Retired in 1999 and built a home on 42 acres where I now piddle with some hay and the old IH tractors and enjoy watching the cows that don't belong to me but are on the about 25 acres of the place. Interesting to read where the backgrounds on all the folks!

I am a department manager at a Hobby Lobby, and also do home remodeling on the side. I was raised around Farmalls and AC's. Positively no green! Learned to drive a 400 and instantly was hooked;at 10 years old! Later drove an AC-WC and a Farmall M. Later an adult and married, I said it would be nice to get my own tractor, and before I knew it, my grandparents bought me my Super C. I have received lots of great advice and look forward to the advice in the future. Patrick

Good idea, Brad! I'm 62 yrs old, retired from the FAA after 40 years. Put in 4 years with the Air Force, 2 1/2 years as a Cummins diesel mechanic and the rest of my time with the FAA. I worked in the Environmental area, engine generators, electrical systems, air conditioning, airport lighting systems, Air Traffic Control Towers, etc. I was born and raised on a farm near Grand Rapids, OH. We had two F-12's we used up til '62, also had an H, traded up to an M, up to a 300, up to a 460(?) Grandad even had a Buckeye trenching machine that was used to install drain tile for anyone in the area. I've restored an F-12 and an F-14 and looking for another one. This is a great site and on occasion I've been able to put in my $.02 worth. Lot of great people here.

Hi Brad, Pine City Mn where I have 160 acres. However my farming hobby is too expensive so have been working overseas past 25 years to support the hobby. Grew up on a dairy farm where it was red in front and green behind.

Well, my name is Larry Early. I live in Westminster CO at this time. I work for a little company called IBM doing business continuity and recovery work. I plan to retire in about 3 years and find a small place in So. Mo, somewhere around Springfield. I was raised in MO on a farm but moved to town after high school. I have a Farmall H and a Farmall Cub - check that Cub, My 5 year old grandson laid claim to that one before it even got off the trailer, so I guess I just have the H.

When my four daughters were in college I work at a welding shop (14 yrs.) while still farming.

Now I just farm around 1000 acres.

I collect toy tractors and have older tractors that I use in on the farm.

I'm in Mitchell, SD-here's a little about my background. Grew up working on the family farm as a kid, where my Dad, a cousin & I farmed 800 acres w/four H Farmalls while in high school; went to college, taught grade school & was a grade school principal for 13 years, left that field when athletic uniforms became more important than books for grade school kids. I took a job as a planner, working with federal programs for small communities (primarily finding funding for new water, sewer & street projects) in 1978. My first employer said he could give me a job for a year & I've been working in the planning field ever since. (Third employer, best one yet.) It is interesting work-I'm one of the "nuts & bolts" guys that does the applications for funding, writes the environmental assessments, and does the follow through to make sure all paperwork is completed correctly, so the federal requirements are met. I usually work with communities that have a population of less than 500. None of the communities of this size have professional planners on staff, so the part-time town board usually has no clue as to what resources and options are available to them when the state or feds come down on them for violations in wastewater discharge or when they discover "bad stuff" in drinking water. Funding to correct identified problems is getting harder and harder to find for communities that have limited resources. (My $0.02 worth. jal-SD)

Been fixing up old tractors since about '92 when I was 11 years old. Just recently bought my Dad's first tractor, a 1942 H - just like mine! Here is a pic of where the farm is in ND:

I am currently teaching sixth-graders in Bullhead City, Arizona. I enjoy the job, but living in the city is not really my idea of fun. It is nice to only be 100 miles away from Las Vegas, though. Here's a map:

I enjoy learning about different areas and different methods of farming from these boards - lots of good people on here!

Born/raised on Marshall County, Iowa farm, ran off and joined the Navy after ISU. Piloted carrier attack aircraft (A-1, A-4, A-6) for 20+ years. Was stationed in Florida, Texas, California, Virginia, Washington, Rhode Island, Maryland, Italy, and Iowa. Retired to SW Iowa and now I can hobby farm 15 acres with 5 RC Farmalls. I really enjoy being able to finally fix my own locomotion. My nickel Dick Davis

After BS in Math, went through Naval Aviator Training, 1963. 400+ missions in F-4s and helos in VN.Flew off Oriskany, Constellation, Midway. Retired in 84, and did some Bush flying in AK. Stopped flying after losing sight in right eye, 1991. Bought this 50 acres in SD, near Mitchell in 98. Maintaining 7-8 food plots on various farms and here for wildlife habitats. Have 1/2 mile of dense cedar/olive creek bed and the biggest bucks in the county. COurse they never get shot at.Except by archery poachers. Use a 966 for the field work, sold my JD 3010 and got an H and an SMTA. Some regrets there. Complete dissassebly and rework of the H in progress, major retoration of SMTA nearly comp-lete. Just drove it around this morning without the grill and hood. Everything mechanical is done and working perfect. Have an older DOdge cummins TD 2500 for hauling Life got a little better with a .8inch rain last night. Hey Dick Davis. Were you on the Conie in a scooter squadron 1967? Did you know spad pilot Gordy Wileen?

Hey Gordo, welcome home buddy. Allen Bishop here, PCF Squadron 13, An Thoi, RVN 1968-1970. Rock-n-Roll mf's. Born and raised in southwest Iowa, Truck driver, carpenter, heavy equipment operator, now disablity retired, gentleman farmer in the Missouri Ozarks, raising cows, calves, and cain. Love riding the Harley. Work on old Farmalls, then do my "farming" with them. 55 years old and wondering what I did with my summer wages. Same as old what's-his-name up above with the Scitzo stuff. Both of us here hear voices and bells everytime I go to Wally World. Starting to worry about it. Good hearing from everybody, Harley
