Hi There
This week i am going to pick up a 48 H. This will be my third H but the first with hydraulics. The current owner says the front loader will lift fine but when released crashes to the ground. Is this normal? also I suspect he has been putting in Hydraulic oil instead of sae 30. Coiuld this cause the hydraulics to not lower slowly.Any input is welcome
tks
Bill in N.B.

Sorry, But I was not quite clear. The loader will raise and will stay, but when the leaver is put in the position to lower, the loader crashes to the ground. I can get the gadget to restrict the flow but is there a problem in the pump the allows the loader to crash instead of lowering in a controlled manner
ttfn
Bill

It sounds like it is operating as designed on lighter implements such as cultivators system is ok but heavy implements will fall rather fast there is not much modulation in valve when it is pushed down it opens wide open and that is why IH offered the drop-retarding valve. Just my opinion based on almost 60 years experience.

Thanks
It sounds like the pump works fine.I will have to change the oil to be sure it is the right grade. I will check on a price of the drop retarding valve.
thanks
Bill

First I believe you have 1 way hydraulics, if so I think you have a bad control valve because you move the lever to raise loader when you get to the desired height then release the lever to the nuetral position the heigth of the loader should remain constant, then move the lever in the opp direction the valve opens sending oil straight to the reservoir. The valve is not blocking the oil off or restricting the flow back to the reservoir.

There is a check valve type device that can be installed between pump outlets and cylinders that will not allow heavy loads to crash to ground. This device allows full flow out but restricts return flow through small orifice. I think we bought the valves from IH dealer but did not find them in parts book.

The valve above is mentioned in I&T shop manual they call it a drop-retarding valve. "The drop-retarding valve restricts the flow of oil from a power cylinder when an implement is lowered."
