YTers,

It"s been a good year and a bad year. The good is pictured here. He is keeping us busy. The bad is my Dad has been sick and treatments are not going well. So I haven"t had any time for recreational tractoring.

Anyway, my SC is making a funny noise from the right wheel or axle area. Can"t tell for sure where. It happens when the weight of the tractor is on it (like going across the side of a slope). It is a clunk in rhythm with wheel rotation...same place every time. At first I thought the rim to axle clamps were loose, or the bolts holding the rim on the wheel. Can"t find it.

Thanks,
Bill

Bill: He's a bit older than my new grandson. The fun is only beginning. All the best to your dad.

Now; Super C, could it be the wheel weight, those can make a thump. That failing jack that rear wheel under the axle housing, as the weight comes off the tire, pay particular attention to the axle in relation to the axle housing. I do this every year with all my tractors, whether I hear noise or not. Gives you a good idea the condition of axle bearings. Since the SC inner and outer bearing are about 14" apart, you should be able to pin it right down.

Another idea is anchor tractor to another vehicle, with a wheel jacked up start the tractor and let it turn the jacked wheel in 1st gear. Cut off the Mrs. broom handle, ( woops not a good idea) get an old broom, stick one end to your ear and place the other end various places along the axle housing. You'll be amazed at what you can hear and actually pinpoint where noise is coming from. If you want to get fancy buy a stethescope.

Man, that youngun" is sure a cutie!!

On your SC clunk, if you haven"t already tried it, jack that wheel up and try to move it side to side. Those bolts have gotta be pretty tight. I had the same kind of clunk in my H after I fixed it up and it was the axle bolts that were just a mite loose. Really tightened them down - as in cheater bar - and my ckunk went away. Hope yours is that simple. Larry

Good luck with your new one, I know you have your hands full. Take a look at your bull gear on that side. Clicking my mean a missing tooth.
