Hydraulics/Trans fluid question on an H

How much fluid should I put back in it?

I am using Hy-Tran....is that ok?

Use gear lube in the tranny. Only use Hytran in newer tractors where the tranny is the hydraulic reservoir.

This is a 1951 H.

Hydraulic system drain is a 1/2" pipe plug at the bottom of the belly pump...

Don't mean to be thick headed, I know I haven't had much sleep in the past few days.

So...let me see if this is correct...
1) Plug on very bottom rear of tractor drains the transmission and rear end. This should be refilled with 85w-140 or 90W, correct? Is this also true for colder climate such as upstate NY?
Also, this refills via the plug on top of the platform next to the steering support that takes a big square wrench?

2) Hydraulics drain under the belly pump, ok to use HY tran in that....and refills in the dipstick hole I assume?

I honestly thought this tractor shared fluid throughout the trans and hydraulics.

Incidentally 85W-90 in the tranny works just fine here in chilly western NY. All 3 of my tractors had been filled with it for years - they run and shift just fine at -10 deg. (When it gets colder than that I stay inside by the fire!)

Using 80w+ in the rear end will be fine in an H. It's what was in them when new and their tolerances could only have increased over 50+ years of use. Neighbor has an M with 90W140 (found it somewhere) in the rear end it runs a lot better in the winter then it did with it half full of water.

I prefer 85w-140 in the rearend/transmission on the A/B/C/H/M and Supers (except SMTA, any TA tractor needs Hy-Tran). It keeps the gears quieter, they stop turning when you push the clutch in, and less prone to leakage through those old seals.

Also do not be surprised if after refilling the tranny immediately begins leaking from the belly pump drive and input shaft seals at the front of the transmission!

These seals often fail when they get old. The leaking however pretty much stops once the tranny oil level drops below the level of the belly pump drive shaft, only to resume leaking once the transmission is refilled to capacity.

Incidentally the belt pulley gearbox retains only about about a quart or so.
