Just curious, what did you see in the IH 966 picture yesterday that identified your old tractor? I looked at the picture several times trying to see something that stood out as being different enough to say, yep, this is different. Was it the footsteps leading up to the cab? Something on the cab trim?

Like the old detergent commercial said, "Inquiring minds want to know!"

Hi Bill,

A combination of things, I guess.

Those long axles, the 16.9 X 38 tires, the square hazzard lights and the "after the fact" added on IH front weight bracket and anti-freeze filter. The paint on the bracket never did match the tractor color correctly as the thing had laid in the sun at the dealer's lot before I bought it.

Mostly tho, it was the background country side. That tractor is out here in the midwest somewhere.

It is just a 'dead ringer' for my old one. :>)

Hey Allan, be sure to keep us posted if you ever do find out if that's your old 9...it'd make an interesting story to find out where it's been over the years.

While we're on the subject, just thought I'd throw out the fact that if anyone out there runs across a Super H with the letters "RD" scratched into the paint on the top of the throttle lever plate, it's our old one. A highschool kid we had raking for us in the 70's scratched his initials on it. It was missing the hood and grille shell when we traded it off.

Allan, thanks for satisfying my curiosity. I suspected it was a combination of details that would escape me. I'm the same way regarding cars/trucks I've traded. I'm always looking for the dent, smudge or color combination. It's kinda good like when I see my old Roadmaster wagon still gitting it done around town.
