I have established that a 460 motor will bolt onto a H bell housing. How long would I need to extend the frame rails? Do they need widened anywhere?

The whole 460 front end will bolt on to the H bellhousing, 460 frame rails, bolt right up. 460 pressure plate, with a Super H clutch disk, and you will have to put the flywheel in a lathe, and cut it down so a H starter ring can go on the 460 flywheel. early 460's was nothing more than a glorified 350. H rear end in good shape can run 70 hp, work or play. Just dont go pulling a 6 bottom plow with it,,,, but a 3 bottom plow,,, yeah, no problems. If you was to use the entire front end off the 460,, you get to keep the radiator support, and mostly everything is a bolt together deal, till the hood comes into play. ChadS

I think you will have flywheel and clutch problems as the 460 has LPTO. I put a 2.8 GM V6 in my SH,without lengthening or widening the frame.Very economical raking hay or on the auger

Just buy an M & put a H decal on it, no, it sounds like it would be a good attention getter at shows. Good Luck!

I mean no disrespect, I have all modified vehicles with different engines and drive trains. The H differential is really not designed for the task of operating with load factors that are going to be created with the 460 engine. Bolting in a 300, or 350 would be cake, and if treated to quality modern gear lube with higher viscosity & multi wt. it might be reliable. If it is going to be a show unit go for it. JimN

You might want to try Chad S. over on the Pulling Board. I believe he built exactly what you are trying to build.
