Help!!!! MY 300 wont move! Parked it a week ago,got on to do some work, but wont let me let out the clutch without killing the eng.I was told that a couple of gears could be stuck together. After a check to see if all gears where moving on shaft, all seems to be in order.Still cant let out clutch without killing the eng.The tractor will roll if in neutral and will not if in gear.So I'm stumped.I really need my tractor.

Barry: If your 300 rolls in neutral it is not worn shift lever causing it to be in two gears at once and its not ice in the transmission. It could be ice in torque tube.

I am adding a bit of info to that which is already offered. If the tractors shifter lever tip (which sorts gear use just below the shifter) jumped out of its groove on the last gear you used, the tractor will still be in that gear. If it is now shifted into any other gear it will be in two gears at once. When in two gears at once the ratios prevent it from moving at all. If it is placed in neutral, it should (might) move in the direction of that "last" gear. Some times they get jambed into two gears and the lever is controlling neither. In this case the tractor will not move at all (not your case). The solution is to remove the shifter lever from its mount and dive in the hole with a good flashlight and big screwdriver to align the shift rails back to neutral. Blocking down the clutch helps. The tip of the shifter may need to be built up to fit better (very common repair) See archives for pictures and process. JimN

Are temps below freezing? Common problem to have water in the transmission/rearend and have it freeze up this time of year.

Well heck yeah,

I had to let my little H idle in neutral for 5 or 6 minutes yesterday before she was ready to go to work. That oil is kinda thick when it's cold. :>)

The shifter is probably worn and 2 forks sliped in gear at the same time

Are you letting the tractor warm up a bit?

Barry: Will it roll in gear with clutch down? Will tractor run with clutch out and in neutral? In neutral will the pto run and go in and out of gear as it should?

From your description it sounds as though problem is in the torque tube. The above will prove that. You didn't say whether you have IPTO or standard? working TA or not? Find answers to my questions and come back.
