Boyd: I don't think the 70 was ever built in 2 bottom. I have a 1968 buyers guide which lists 60 as 2 to 4 bottoms and 70 as 3 to 6 bottoms. I owned 3 different No.60 and know they were always available in 2x14. On the subject of the 68 buyers guide, bear in mind 60 and 70 plows had been on the market 10 years by then, thus there may have been early 70s built as 2x14. I rather doubt it though, I've never seen a 14" No.70 any size. The guys that bought those were buying them to plow down corn stalks, and they would be after 16".

If your shopping for one of 60 or 70, stay clear of plow chief bottoms. IH only used those 3-5 years, not many around, thus they are getting hard to find wear parts for. There is good reason why plow chief had a short life span. I owned one and every time one bought points and shares he had to buy about twice the number of points needed. They wouldn't stay tight, so you always lost the extras. They never grew either.

Go for Super Chief bottoms on a 60 or 70 plow.

gene: That probably includes just about any make of trailer plow as well. Until tractors the size of the M over took sales of tractors the size of the H, two bottom plows were all most of us could pull. Going from 2x12 to 2x14 meant one was cutting 28" every pass rather than 24", plus they could plow a bit deeper.

Boyd: IH built several 2x14 trailer plows over the years. Probably half the Little Genius models could be ordered as 2x14. No.8 is a definite, but without looking it up I'm sure most of the Little Genius were available in 2x14. Same with Little Wonder plows, I think there were 4 models and at least 2 of them were available as 2x14.

In the early 1960s the model number 60 came out and it was available as 2x14.
