I just picked up a 450 gas tractor a couple weeks ago, in the first hour of operation the needle in the carb stuck so I tore it apart and replaced needle and seat. Now I'm not an IH guy, in fact I'm not much of a mechanic at all, but the guy at the parts counter gave me the printout and diagram, so i thought Id make an attempt at it.
After getting it put back together and on the tractor I fired it up, and the throttle didnt work. I'm guessing the problem is that I didnt get that horizontal tube that goes into the carb in right. Theres a plastic disc in the carb with a notch in it, can someone tell me how that lines up, I thought I got that pin into the notch on the disc. I'm guessing my problem lies there, but I'm kinda stuck right now so would appreciate some advice. Thanks!

Alright I got it, took me about 4 attempts in the dark with my headlamp on, but I think it was the cussing and yelling that finally made the difference. All good advice, thank you much, I was getting pretty close to having it right without the cussing, but once I threw in a little bitta French, it just slid right in the notch. If I'd have only cussed at it Friday, that barn would be clean now. Better get back to work. Thanks again!

Hold your tongue just right and try again. Connect the governor tube to the carb, and install the screws, but leave them loose, and then mount the carb to the manifold. After tightening the carb to manifold nuts, then go back and tighten the screws that hold the tube to the carb.

I've found that it sometimes helps to cuss it while your doing it so it knows you mean business.

Any time you work on one of these 'ol gals you have to maintain a constant "under your breathe" muttering, with an occasional loud outburst.

Yep you don't have the nub and the nutch lined up correctly. A friend had the same problem when he put his carb on his 450 and I had to come over and line things up the right way. Not hard to do just a pain in the but

Your instincts are correct; the governor rod pin must be placed into the notch of the throttle shaft. Mail me if you have any further questions; I enjoy working on carburetors.
