Made a deal this morning on a '74 Farmall 140 with Fast Hitch, one bottom plow, 6 or 8 foot disk (my choice), custome built 1Pt carry-all and a 1Pt 2row IH corn planter. This from the original owner's son (original owner has passed). Apparently they did small gardens only with it as its in a residential area. It needs a new intake/exhaust manifold (has a leak) and the hood has an indentation in it, but otherwise its in pretty good shape with 4 good tires and NO slop in the steering. Question: I've never seen the IH 2 row corn planter before this? Anyone got a model and if they are rare? thanks, BobG in VA

Bob: Over the years there were 3-4 two row 1 point fast hitch planters. I believe the early one was called a 250. The later ones were made up using a tool bar and clamp on planting units. The later can be quite extensive. I actually have a John Deere two row 1 point fast hitch planter.

The 250 is quite easy to identify as there is no tool bar, just a light frame with the hitch fork. IH also made the 250 in 2 point fast hitch version for SC, 200, etc. For tool bar planters with individual units one would almost need a photo to identify that one. A friend of mine has a tool bar 4 row small seed Stan Hay planter for his 130. He can space the rows as close as 12" for small vegetables and as wide as 36". I guess he could go wider if tool bar was long enough or by taking off units.

Bob, your gonna love the 140. Get you a new manifold, they sell them on this site. I think the problem with the fast hitch is that if you need new stuff now all your going to find is the three point stuff. But thats an easy fix if you need to do it.

Hugh, Went and picked up fruit trees yesterday. The guy there has six 140's. I think he is hording them. lol Some old Apple trees we have are allready blooming. It aint Spring yet!

Randy: Do you know what I heard this morning on my way to town, "When your down in Texas, Bob Wills is still the King". And all this time I'd been thinking it was, by now Super A Tx.

Speaking of winter, we haven't had much yet. That old temperature keeps hanging right around the freezing mark, and I don't like that. The risk of freezing rain and havoc it can play, take the fun right out of winter. I'd far sooner it would be a bit colder.

Dang that Bob Wills! Texas Playboys? I bet they dont even own a tractor! How can you be a playboy without a SA? I dont think you can.

My Favorite is Bill Monroe and the song..... Little Georia Rose.

Maybe I need to start a new topic on Blue Grass and tractors. Heck, thats as country as you get.

Randy: I can give a listen to Bill Munroe. As Waylen put it, Nashville may be the capital of country music, but those ole boys down in Texas made their dent in the industry.

Who was the guy that teamed up with Bob Wills before the days of Texas Playboys back in the late 30s or 40s. They called themselves the Light Crust Doughboys. This group broke up and the partner went into politics later becomming a Congressman. I'll bet Bob Wills stuck around longer and enjoyed more popularity than the partner from the early days. The name "Light Crust Doughboys" came from the fact they were sponcered by a flour or milling company.

You are thinking of "Pappy" O'Daniel. His involvement with music was just to sell his flour. He was also Texas governor, not a high point of Texas politics.

Follow the link for more than you want to know about O'Daniel.
