Just getting into the Farmalls and would like to know on the Farmall H does the belt pully always turn, or is it engaged/disengaged? I'd also like to know if the RPM is constant or adjustable and what that RMP is? Any difference in model years? And is this is where the "belt hp" is taken from on the spec sheets?

Thanks from a novice,
Kenneth

Kenneth - The belt pulley has a dog clutch that connects/disconnects it from the main transmission.

To operate the belt pulley, first depress the foot clutch. Wait a couple seconds for parts in the the transmission to stop turning, then engage the belt pulley clutch (push the shifter rod forward). Finally let out the foot clutch - the belt pulley will now turn. You can stop the belt pulley again simply by stepping on the clutch.

Tip: DON'T move the belt pulley clutch lever unless the foot clutch is depressed and the tractor is not moving - otherwise you will grind gears!

Not certain of the RPM of the H belt pulley at rated engine speed - I recall it's around 1,000 RPM or so. Belt pulley RPM can be varied by changing the engine RPM.

"Belt HP" test data was indeed taken off the belt pulley back in the day. However more recently HP data by the manufacturers (also by the Nebraska tractor test) has been taken from the rear PTO shaft as belt pulleys gradually disappeared.

Also there a number of pullys that could have been ordered, I think from 8" to 12" for the H. This would effect the number of feet per min. The smaller the pully the less feet per min. Not sure if that is helpful.
