Not Enough Sunlight and Poor Pollenation

Yes, it CAN rain too much. We don't often experience it here in Central Texas, but as a result of heavy rainfall, the local crop looks only fair.

Some stands look good; but many are too yellowish and have far too few leaves. Although this problem is most pronounced in low-lying areas, where it is obviously due to standing water, it is also showing up on the hillsides and hilltops this year.

In addition the individual ears tend to the small size locally.

The primary factor seems to be a lack of adequate sunlight (it CERTAINLY isn't a lack of rainfall); and in some areas, where it was raining almost every day during pollenation, we are experiencing poor and very uneven kernel development.

They will begin picking here by the middle of July; so we don't have long to wait to see what the yield will be.

We had 6" in central mo. this past week. We had been doing OK prior to that, I said we could use a little shower, but not 6". It came slow though and didn't hurt much. Our corn is tasseling and silking and looks great! But it isn't in the bin yet!!
