I have a 424 which is supposed to have an underslung muffler. My exhaust pipe is broken off and I don't know what shape to have the pipe bent. Can anyone take photos of an underslung exhaust on a 424 and send them to me? Or, would it be difficult to switch to a through-the-hood muffler?

Email to chris.hibbert (at) gmail.com

Thanks!

This is what I did on my 240 U. 1-1/4" EMT (electrical metallic tubing) It fit snug in the gooseneck. Bent it with a hand bender. 424 might be a bigger size?. David.

Thanks to all of you for your assistance. I decided that since the hood wa already banged up and already had more circular holes in it than it was supposed to have, I would go ahead and make an upgright exhaust. I found an 1-1/2 Nipple and threaded that down into the exhaust manifold (which was already tapped) and then put an IH-3 from TSC on the nipple. Now it looks more like my case tractor looked and it's quite a bit quieter. Thanks to all of you for your help!

After breaking the underslung muffler off of my 2444 three times I changed it over to verticle exhaust. I removed the broken elbow and tapped the exhaust manifold to accept the 1 1/2 inch exhaust pipe. Use a hole saw to cut the hole in the hood and your home free.

Chris, I am with Tim on this one. If it were mine I would put the other one on there. It will be cooler for the operator and a lot cheaper than having those pipes made. I can't help with the underslung muffler, this is just my opinion of them. They are great for getting under low hanging limbs and low clearence barn or garage doors, but other than that the other is better in general.

Chris, my 424 had the underslung exhaust, and had a cast iron "gooseneck" where it came out the top of the manifold to turn it back down, but that gooseneck piece was broke..so I welded up a flange to bolt in place of the gooseneck, cut a hole in the hood and put a regular verticle exhaust on it..I like it much better than going out the back..

Tim
