My TA worked great last summer on the tractor rides. I tried to move the tractor with the TA pulled back during the winter and the tractor wouldn't move. Waited till it was warm this summer and now the TA works perfect. Does this mean the TA is starting to out?

Mike, may have a good point. TA's don't work well if gear oil is in there. It should have HY-TRAN or a good equivalent for the TA to work properly. It also should be moving before engaging. Always leave the tractor in DD(high range) when parked.

Thanks for the reply. I'm not real knowledgeable regarding TA's, have had more John Deere's over the years. Didn't know that I should leave the TA ahead but will from now on. Last winter I tried to get it to work by getting it moving with the TA ahead and then pulling it back, but it would stop as soon as I pulled it back. A knowledgeable IH collector restored this tractor but he could have used the wrong oil. Thanks again for the replys.

Bob: First, let me say I know nothing about T/A's. Having said that, I do know something about transmissions and drivetrains. Sounds like the lube you are using is too thick for the climate in which you operate in the winter season. Mike
