I work at an ag retailer and the way we control them is to take an empty anhydrous wagon and seal up all the holes you can find except for the one you put the hose in...open valve and step back. You usually miss a hole or two, but they are never seen again.

A few years ago I had A Rat Terrier (now dead of old age) that was sure death for moles but he did more damage than the moles as he would dig like a back hoe.

Killing grubs will definitely be good for your lawn, but it won't make the moles go away. A mole might eat a grub here and there, but it's not the main food source. The primary food source for moles is earthworms, and you do not want to kill off the earthworms living in your lawn.

There are a few poisons out there that are designed to mimic an earthworm and I know several lawn care professionals that have used them repeatedly, but I can offer no first-hand recommendations.

The most sure-fire method I've heard of is a lawn chair, pitchfork or shovel, beverage of your choice and time. Sit in a shady spot and watch the mounds and the runs. When you see movement, run over and stab the run with the pitchfork or whack 'em with the back of the shovel.

(A) I put two 5 gallon buckets full of water in the trailer behind the 4 wheeler. Then I whistle up the Lab, (Sparrow). (B) Put Sparrow on a 'sit' near the hole (C) Pour water down hole (D)Try to guess how many feet the gopher will make before Sparrow has it. One particularly swift male made it a record 11 feet.

Poison grain or peanuts.

Poison gas.

Gopher traps work good if you can find them making a new mound.

One other thing I heard of is human hair. Never tried it but would be interesting to see if it worked. The smell keeps them away. Guess it would work in small gardens but might be hard to put in in large areas. Plus, I dont have that much hair left.

We dont have either here but five miles down the road where it is sandy they are ate up with them. Mounds everywhere.

Pellet gun and too much time on hands.

Or get a smoke grenade from paintball store, pull pin and toss down hole, then get gun and take aim,,,

A insecticide used to kill grubs and burroring insects can help reduce the infestation. Ask a specialist (trusted Ag person from the extension service) to recommend a product that is not hard on earthworms. Aldo keeping down the population of tap root weeds (not that you have any) will help. Both of these efforts dont kill the beasties, they reduce the food they seak and as such they die out, or move. Following the directions on the container is also important for safety and lawn quality. JimN
