i put a live pump in my 48 m. if you are going to do it, put the timing gear off a superm in there. its a heavier gear to handle the extra stress from the pump. i didnt, and after the gear let go, i had to go in and change it. if your pump is the style that fits the super m. the top two bolts on the pump dont line up with the front cover. the bottom two do. i bought a pump kit at a sale, had all the instructions to install it. they had you put two bolts in the top two holes on the front cover, cut them off flush and then re drill and tap the top two holes to match the pump. it had a cover to put on the belly pump to covert it to an oil resivoir.

Chuck46, is right. M's after mid 1950 from serial number 228082 and up will except the live pump from a SM, SMTA, 400, 450. Those made prior to that will need some work on them.

Hi, What year is your M? I think about 1950 they started putting heavier timing gears in them and changed the mounting bolt configuration. What kind of pump do you have? One off a super M through 450 will not mount directly to an older M without modification. An M&W pump might be made for either the older or newer but not both. After you figure that out most take the guts out of the belly pump and use that for a resivoir, this is good unless you use a hyd. motor, then you will need a larger resivoir. Because of that I cleaned the transmission and rear end out to use that on my H. Next will be valves, do you need one, two, or three? There is a wide variety of them, just be sure they have a pressure relief valve built in them or put your own in. I have found that junked combines are a good source of hyd. components. After that just mount your valves where they are handy and get hoses to hook it all up. Good luck, Chuck

All the M&W pumps that I have seen would fit either front plate and cover. Three of the holes are the same and the fourth has a double hole, just put the bolt in the one you need.

Hi again, I should have also said to put a suction fiter or screen in the suction line and a 10 micron fiter in the return line. Northern has them at a reasonable price. Good luck, Chuck
