When I bought my house (great grandfather built it) it came with pretty much everything. Including 2 tractors a IH B275 Diesel, and this old Farmall f-12 (34?). Just checking my options here, I am not planning on rebuilding it, (the block is craked so a replacement engine wouold be in order) and I have enough work with the B275 to keep me busy for years.

I originally planned on dragging it around front and putting it in a flowerbed so the wife could plant a Santa / Scarecrow / Easter Bunny / etc, etc each year.

Thoughts?

Kind of late posting this, but here goes. Don't let that cracked block scare you one bit! I have seen a lot of F-12s and 14s with welds on the side. I have seen more cracked ones than non cracked, so I think it was more of a casting defect than from freezing.I can't belive that that many farmers would let them freeze and break I have a 35 f-12 with a cracked block that I use a lot! not for putting around, but acual work sledding logs and a trailer for firewood or pulling the hay wagon. Been using it since about 1998 and no problems! One thing about an F-12 is they are fun to drive and easy to store!

my thought is this that tractor is amazingly complete for its age and if its your great grandfathers or another family members tractor protect it for now and restore it in his honor when you can i wish i had been able to grab one or both of my grandfathers farmalls way back when another family member decided to trade them in on a newer larger tractor, some of my best young memories were on those tractors, now the tractors are long gone and i'll never find them, i still want to at least find another of the sane type and restor it in his memory though

While this makes sense, it never ran while I was alive, so it was just sitting the yard to me. His (my grandfather, who also owned the land) B275 though, I remember him using it a good deal.

No decisions yet. I"m leaning toward moving it out front as decoration, and if I plan on restoring it from that point, I know where it is.

unless I get an "offer I can"t refuse" ya know. heh

Those fenders alone are worth $500-$700, based on my shopping experience.

My F14 was in WAY worse condition than that when I started. I'd hold onto it with the idea of restoring it.

For sentimental reasons, I would hang on to it, especially if there were any neat memories or stories attached to it. If you can't restore it, find a way to preserve it and prevent further damage. Who knows, grandkids not even born yet, may 25 years down the road want it.
The part about the lawn orniment would only work if you wanted company. My brother has an old Korean war era army jeep setting by his house that is not for sale, yet he gets about two or three folks pull up each month trying to convince him to sell it. Just my two cents worth.

Cracks in the water jacket on the left side of the block (water intake side) are very common due to frost damage. I had an O-12 block welded and the repair is barely visible to anyone looking very closely. That F-12 with fenders etc looks to be in otherwise complete state.

Restore it or sell it to somebody who will. A '34 with fenders and hydraulic lift is not very common, even for an F-12. It appears to be pretty complete and if you need a block, they are easy to come by. If the crack is only on the outside of the block, it can be welded. I have welded several F-12 blocks over the years with no problems.

Rebuild it,weld the block, that tractor looks better than anything I ever started with,Brake the motor loose, let soak for as long as you can,I use a round thick peice of steel laying on top of the pistons, hitting the round peice with a 11/2 square steel bar and a 20 lb sledge hammer.Hit each piston a little at a time.Remove the oil pan so you can tell what you are doing.Unbolt the pistons as you see or feel them moving.Ive done 5 of these and never broke any thing yet.Remove sleves change O rings,Hone old sleves and install new rings,The head is the most critical,Any used parts are available

Ther is a guy not far from here on a mountain road in Hanging Dog that has an old cub parked in his front yard and the change the clothes on the dummy on the tractor about four times a year to match the seasons. Its used as a directions tool (go one mile past the tractor and turn right) for thos who live out there Could be you could do the same and meet lots of new friends who stop to ask whats up.

is there any chance the block could be repaired? If not, then I would paint it up nice and drag it out there. Or if there are any good parts on it I'd try to sell them. Yard decorations can (in my opinion) go without barley noticable parts.

it *may* be repairable, I think it was due to coolant popping a section out during a freeze. If so, thats not real high pressure, and a piece could be welded over it. unless I'm way off base there.
