I am curious if anyone knows why there are adjustment screws on the intake manifold, they dont appear to be connected to anything at all however they have the slot-head screw with bolt to lock them into position, I figured I better ask before touching them, was not sure if they would control fuel or air flow? Or Vacuum perhaps?

I didn't mention that gaskets from a C-264 will not work as that is a gas engine.

Well I guess I will have them bring them in anyways and pray for some kind of fluke that they are the ones I need. Any idea where a guy can get a set of intake gaskets fr a d264?

If your tractor is a 450 Diesel it has a D-281 engine in it , unless it has been replaced with a D-264.

The body claims it is a 450 but the engine is a 264. So the c 264 is the gas version?

Thanks,

I am trying to stick to my side of the border for parts as much as possible, the customs officers seem to like to try things on for size when they cross, thus delaying everything for a week or two.

All the MD and 400-450 Diesels look more or less the same. They have the exhaust stack on the front right side of the hood. All Gas engines in those tractors have exhaust at the midline of the engine on the left side (while sitting on the tractor). The size is indicated on the block. If yours is a 264, it might not be the 450D engine, but it is the 400D engine. It will be fine do not give up!!! If the gasket is for a C series, it will not work, they are Gas engines. JimN

They seemed pretty similar to me so far as I had gathered so far, Maybe it is a 400D with 450D tin on it, I have no clue, most of the parts I have needed have been identical for the 400d and 450d and most of the parts suppliers around here don't even have the 450d in their books only the 400d.

The screws set the intake butterfly rack so that it closes correctly but does not jamb in the bores. Unless they are not closing all the way(somebody adjusted without understanding the process needed to do it) they will be OK. While you are doing the manifold, make sure the butterfly is woring as designed Closing for gas, and forcing intake through the carm, and opening to run Diesel, shutting off the carb, and shutting of the ignition. Everything on it works, the intake manifold is getting visibly tired though, it is beginning to crack at one of the bolting points, I put a large flat washer on it though to prolong the life. Just got off the phone with the parts store and they have a set of intake gaskets in Edmonton and will have the gaskets here for me tomorrow. The set is for a C-264? I know my engine is a 264 but not sure if it is a C or not.
