Need Cam Gear Replacement info

Does anyone have a manual for a D264 that they can copy the section on replacing the cam gear. I am trying to play beat the snow with this little project and do not have time to wait for a manual to be shipped from the US to Alberta. Any help or info on an online source would be greatly appreciated.

Not sure but think maybe you have a W series tractor. Since I'm not sure I will leave out bolster removeing instructions. After you get everything out of the way at front of engine. Remove water pump,crankshaft pin for hand crank and pulley retaining nut. Some crankshafts that don't show up in parts book have the nut and snout made in one piece.Remove pulley, sometimes front engine support will slide off then, if not leave it on front cover. Remove oil pan, it could be loosend and front bolts removed, but if cam needs to come out the oil pump does to. Also if you have to service idler gear the head of retaining bolt is up inside. Remove all bolts in cover and some on back of front engine plate, top bolts from injection pump,3 bolts from hydraulic pump. leave the lower inside mounting bolt in. Remove front cover and you will be looking at all the timing gears. If something is wrong make sure engine is on # 1 compression stroke when timing gears. Have you determined the distributor is not turning, valves not opening and closing,etc? If you can get the engine serial # after where it has D264 I may be able to tell if its a 400 engine. Also I wondered about your hydraulic system having a working relief valve when you described system before. Sounded like someone plumbed from pump to non original system bypassing regular pressure relief. If not that could cause a problem with timing gears.

Thanks for the instructions. To further assist you, I pulled the numbers off of the engine serial plate.

The Serial number off the engine is 11740 the other number off the serial plate before the 264 is 270024R91 264 hopefully this helps you place where the engine came from.

Think your using the injection pump serial number plate. Engine size and # is stamped on side of block above injection pump. flat spot just below the head and near front.

ok well this may change everything or it may change nothing. Thankfully the day before my engine calfed I pressure washed it, and I managed to find a new number that I never saw before. The block is stamped with D281 1772 I never thought in a million years that the only part of the tractor to get a serial plate would be the injection pump. So does that mean then that the injection pump is off a 264?

You have a 450 engine. Injection pump is the right # for a 450. Some pumps with that # 270024 have both D264 and D281 on serial tag, some have D281.

Brian, I have a parts manual for SM and SMD, uncluding TA's. I can email you the exploded picture of the front of the D-264 engine, if you think that would maybe help? It will be a little different than in the 450, though. Send me an email through this reply and I can email you back later today.

The 400D and the 450D used the 8310DA cam gear. Not sure what Brian's engine is out of. Hal
