My father-in-law owns a 1939 Farmall A. It always started easily, but when it was hot it had to be pull started. He took apart the carb to clean it and now doesn't start at all. I was planning on replacing the plug wires and points and condenser. I guess I need to rebuild the carb as well. Any other ideas on what my problem may be.

Well if it ran before he took the carb apart I would think he did something wrong to the carb. Most of the time if they run and you work on part of it and it now doesn't run that means you messed up what you worked on

Might be a bad coil or bad spark plugs, or it might be the condenser.

Had that problem on a green tractor once. I took the
mag off put it behind the woodstove over the winter,
and the next summer it started good hot or cold.

You need to check to see if gas is getting to the carburetor. Make sure the carburetor is clean and the float is set at the correct height. You need to check for fire at your sparkplugs. If it
has a distributor you need battery voltage to the coil and distributor. If it has a mag you don't need battery voltage, but it needs good clean points, condenser and a hot coil. Hal
