We are needing some FACTS we are in the process of restoring a 1951 Super C. But we have come to a fork in the road and don't know which way to go when it comes to the paint codes. People are telling us different color schemes and we cannot make out the exact one from old pictures. Are the wheels IH silver or IH white(kind of a eggshell color)? Is there a website that will give me the exact paint codes? Please help, Thanks!!

o Original rims were galvanized so now you can use the I-H SILVER or any other you like some like ALUM. You should get a copy of the book called FARMALL LETTER SERIES TRACTORS by FAY and KRAUSHAAR This will answer all your questions about paint, decals, production changes, serial #s and year built. Then you will know all the info about your tractors and wont have to take old wives tales about restoration.

For implements you might look at the IH Paint Committee Decisions at the Wisconsin Historical Society. Link is below.

As far as the silver wheels, I'm sure someone knows for sure.

Early on they were galvanized and at some point switched over to plain painted steel. Strictly as a guess, it might have had to do with WWII (the Big One) and the need to divert zinc supplies to making brass for shell casings, affecting the availablility and/or the price of zinc for galvanizing?? Kinda like steel wheels making a comeback on the tractors made during the war because rubber was scarcer than steel.
