Ben We had a 766 diesel and a 706 with the late model German diesel. The 766 had more HP. We pulled a 5-16" plow with the 766 and 4-16" with the 706. When we had to make a choice, when downsizing, as to which one to sell, the 766 went by by. And that was a diesel. 706 is setting down the road in the shed today. IH slipped somewhere between the 06 and 66 series. The 66 was in the shop way more than others. And it was just little things, the quality was not there, compared to older models. And with newer models, they realized their mistakes and made beter tractors. I would not buy a gas powered 766.

Like Allen said Big tractor LITTLE pony under the hood . My one buddy has one and it will not prefrom as well as a late model 706 with the same engine . Get one with the 360 diesel WHOLE different ball game . As for price being that we can not see it anywhere between 4500 and 6500.

Heck,

I dunno Ben. If you're thinking loader tractor or very, very light duty chore unit, it might be worth what? Five grand?

I just never did like 'em. That's a heck of a lot of tractor for a gas engine.

The bank has it on repo, i can take it for $4000, is it a reliable tractor? i understand it might be underpowered but want a good quality tractor, i'm just looking for something to use on my land, some discing, I dont have much of a budget, my oliver 88 diesel just made its last pass a couple days ago. My disc is 14ft, that should be more than enogh.

Very, very good tractor if someone hasn't cowboyed it into the ground.

Sure sounds like a fair buy, don't it?

All I'm saying is just be prepared. It is gonna drink fuel like a drunken sailor and will be massively under powered. Fact is, I wonder if it could even properly handle a 14' disc; probably a 12 footer would be more in the ballpark.

'Course, that large frame tractor has 16 speeds forward, so you'll make out okay one way or another.

Good luck with 'er.

At ease, at ease-- having known a lot of drunken sailors (27+years in the Navy)- I've never known one to drink gasoline!! But then E85 wasn't available which of course may have been your reference in which case I apologize and will have another beer. Dick Davis
