We had a 706D with the German Diesel. When my father bought it, it had the 56 series shifting on it. I have learned that it was common for folks to retrofit their 06 with 56 series shifting. But, I remember that it also had the 56 series grill - the gridiron style. I distinctively remember that the grill fastened by two pins on the top that inserted into the cast frame. My question is this: could this have possibly been a late model 706 that had some 56 series parts? Or, could you interchange a 56 series grill on the 706? I suppose if the holes weren't present on the 706's they could be drilled.

I also remember that the TA lever was the 06 style (not chrome). The throttle lever was the long, skinny black cast variety as opposed to the short, bent, chrome style that was on our 856. Also, I remember that the PTO lever was one that was behind the seat as opposed to being to the left of the seat. The number plates definitely said 706 and the panels were white. I also remember two faded patches on the hood just above the 'Farmall' badges, on each side towards the front that looked like a sticker was once located there and the paint around it had faded at a different rate than the rest of the paint. It sort of reminded me of the shape of the SMTA decal. Did any 706/756's come with a sticker like this or were mine eyes playing tricks on me?

So, was this just a retrofitted 706 or could it have possibly came equipped with some 56 series features from the factory?

I'm looking to find this tractor and buy it back for sentimental purposes. Any chance anyone has seen it ;) (Northeast Iowa)? I replaced the steering and throttle assembly with one off of a 1256 that had the tilt steering. I also replaced the PTO lever with one that was located to the left of the seat. It was definitely a custom job. Darn good ol' tractor too.
