dose all farmall h have 5 gears forward and 1 back

If there is no overdrive added on, all H's have 5 forward speeds and one reverse. Tractors manufactured on rear steel wheels have a lock bolt that locks out the 5th gear. The bolt can be loosened if rubber tires were installed to unlock the 5th gear.

Unless they have a M&W or Heisler, I think that was the other common brand, overdrive. These were called 9 speed overdrives. Then you had with the M&W 11 including reverse increased also. Never had a Farmall with a Heisler. These were on M's and H's.

Yes, unless it was ordered with steel wheels then 5th would have been locked out at the factory.

Like stated above the M&W 9 speed made reverse faster and also it almost turned the PTO into a 1000 rpm PTO. That comes in handy for light pto work like generators and wood splitters. RichH
