OK! A couple of years ago, a guy over hauled my dads M farmall. Basiclly dad bought a kit with I think standard bearings. dad never really used it after that, due to bad health. Since he has passed on, and i was givin this tractoer by my mom. Heres the deal, i can start it and it has good oile pressure after is warms up real well it drop just a little above the red mark on the gauge. If i plastic gauge the crank will i be able to get the rite sized bearing to help it hold good pressure?

I would look into you oil pump it is not hard to check it after you drop the oil pan. if you have an IT manual it will give you the spec's. if your father had it rebuilt with stock bearings and the crank was worn afew thousands that could be it too. I can get you .002 and .003 oversized bearings but you must careful if the crank is worn uneven , you will have problems. if you use plasic gauge be sure to cover the entire journal.
the spec for oil clearance is .002 to.003.
Good luck Ed

i would say its the cam brgs that are worn.if it was worn or incorrect rod brgs. you would here it knocking, and it would not have run two years.to check rods and mains use the green plastigage for .001-.003 clearances.if it dont register red is for .002-.006 and blue is for.004-.009.rod clearance is.0015.

They probably didn't put in new cam bearings and
this gives you good oil pressure. Bearing clearances should be .001 to .0015" too. Hal

What oil is in the crankcase? If it's still break-in oil, it could be thin # 10 oil. If you know it's #30, you should look further for wide bearings or other causes of low pressure. Wouldn't hurt to put a master oil pressure gage on after it gets warmed up just to be sure it isn't the gage. This is easiest to check.

Well you can plastigauge the crank but it will tell you how much clearance you have say from 1 1/2 to 3 thousandths. If its so loose it doesnt register, its probly the wrong bearings for how the crank is ground,if it is.You really need to measure the crank with a micrometer if the plastigauge doesnt register, then a good parts store or machine shop should be able to tell you what bearings are needed,if its ground wrong,or whats maybe wrong. It might be that its just one journal so you should check all of them.By it having good pressure to start with, then getting low,it might be the cam bearings,or something else.
