Back again, I removed the filter and found a 1/2 inch square piece of the filter missing. I wonder where that went, anyone have any ideas? Also I plugged a pressure gauge in the rear quick connect and have approx 650-700 lbs pressure. Should be 1200-1500. Any help greatly appreciated. Boats

Boats: You probably need a pump, and very likely that piece of filter missing is part of the cause.

Hugh, you wouldn't think a small piece of (i assume its brass) would hurt a steel gear. Wouldn't it be more likely to have plugged something. Boats

Boats: Not thinking so much about the peice missing from the screen as I am the dirt it allowed through over time. Hydraulic gear pumps like the 300 has don't tolerate foreign material very well. That piece of screen, plus other dirt would do it in quite quickly.

In the past I've compared the average hydraulic system to our own blood circulation system. The average hydraulic pump will last just as long without oil as your heart will without blood. The same can be said about keeping both systems clean. I have two tractors in my shed, 53 SA and 58 130, neither hydraulic sysyem has ever been apart, other than taking lines off when splitting tractor. Technically if my descendants take care of those tractors, I can see those hydraulic pumps giving more years of service than my heart.
