OK, the motor generator for my cub 154 lowboy is charging at 9.5 volts at idle speed. At max. rpms, it decreases to 6.5 volts. I have undercut the commutator to about 1/32 and the brushes seem fine. The belt is tight. Am I looking at a bad armature?

AgMan- Sir! Is hard telling what is going on from the info you tell. "Under-cutting" the armature was/is common practice. Along with it needs to be "turning the armature", where the commutator bar surfaces are all cut concentric with the armature's axis of rotation. If let go the "brush bounce" will eventually burn up the armature. Look inside and see if you got arcing as RPM increases. If so, get the commutator turned. If not, check the 12 volt conversion posts archives. Good luck, IHank
