Got all the finishing touches on my 49 C. Painted it with IH 2150 with Centari hardener. Used the oven cleaner and wire brush trick on the castings and sandblasted the sheetmetal. I got about a gallon of primer on all the sheetmetal and boy does it look good. I am almost afraid to use it, but it will see the fields in the summer and snow on the lane in the winter. Love this little tractor.

Brian, your tractor looks terrific.

What part of the country do you live in? (If by chance you're close by I'd love to see it in person) I am in southern Wisconsin.

To plow snow, do you use a rear blade?

I live near Peoria Illinois.

Come on down this weekend and you can see me in action plowing. The Three Sisters Plowing Bee was postponed to the 15th due to rain.

I have a front blade for my C.

Hi Brian -

Thanks for the invite. I cannot travel this weekend, but if I will be anywhere in your area in the future I may give you a yell.

I asked about plowing snow because I would like to set my C up for that, and want to configure a front blade for it. I was thinking of using the lift arms and cables/rollers to raise and lower the blade.

I'd enjoy corresponding further regarding how your C does pushing snow etc. (Not sure if this is the appropriate place, or if I should begin a new thread)

Also, are you the fellow who has the 3-pt hitch from Saginaw County Tractor on your C?

I have the Saginaw 3 Point and love it. I don't have it hooked up yet. I have been trying to find an auxilary control valve since December. I have some pictures of the hitch and plow mounted on the tractor. I will post them later on.

Very Nice, Brian. Excellent job. The camera you mention, is it a digital? I might have to look into that if it is, excellent quality for the price.

Can you still find alot of parts at an IH dealer or do you have to use alot of other after market sources?

This is my first tractor too. It was very fun. My dealer is pretty helpful with parts. Just gotta hold on to the wallet. The ones he can't help with, it is fun searching for them. Some you just have to make or adapt something else.

Brian: Let us newbies know more about what you did and how you did it - what problems you ran into and what you would not do or do different. Have to paint my H this summer, (currently Alis Chambers orange - one of the prior owner had good intentions but a mistake in the paint). C looks great!!!

I took off all the sheetmetal. Straightened all dents and bends. Sand blasted all that stuff then began primering and block sanding. This took about 8 times. Meanwhile, I sprayed on the oven cleaner on the rest of the tractor. This took about 10 cans of the cheapest stuff you can find. Then after a couple of weeks of this, pressure wash the tractor. Then use a wire brush on a die grinder to knock off any leftover scale. The shoot on the primer and paint. I painted my sheetmetal stuff separate then put it on. I feel this allowed me to get everything covered well. Put it all back together and decal it after a couple weeks. The whole process for me took about 2 1/2 months. Not too bad.

You just want to make sure you have all your leaks and mechanical stuff fixed BEFORE you paint. I think I may have to replace my clutch one of these days before too long and an dreading it now. Oh well, IH paint is cheap.

Brian, nice looking tractor and a great looking photograph. Could you tell us more about the process and steps you used to get it on the forum?
I noticed that you did not use Photopoint. I also checked you isp and they don't seem to have a photo hosting service. I have a $600 Kodak digital camera and I don't think I could have done as well. Very crisp and bright. Thanks.

I hate to use the Photopoint service. I don't like to see banners getting in the way of nice photos. For some folks they have no choice. My ISP allows me to have a website and space on the server. So I just FTP my pictures to my folder on the server and then point the URL to that folder. See the optional image URL below. Just put in the address of any picture and there you have it.

I just bought this new camera and this was one of my test pictures. It is a FUJI 1200. Got it at K-Mart for about $250. I am very impressed with it so far for the $$$. I am sure in a year or two these will be down to the $100 mark.

Amazing how the prices have dropped. My Olympus D600L cost $1,300 in November, 1997.

Terrific, great job. Did you use the vinyl cut out letters? Are those 4.00x15 fronts? Did you hand paint the IH on the grill? I've got one under restoration now.

The decals are from TSC and come as a kit. They might be vinyl, but I am not sure. They are a matte finish. They are not cut out around the letters.

The front tires are 5.00x15 and the rears are 11.2x36 Titans.

Yes, I did hand paint the IH on the grill. I took the origional plate and masked it off and painted it. It was not bent too bad or I would have bought a new one from IH for $7. Funny thing is, I have much more time in it than the $7 IH charges, but it was fun.

Looks absolutely great.I have a 53 Super C that runs good and is all there but looks allful and really isn't worth the cost of restoration( all the seals leak , the rear rims are rusted out, about 4 coats of paint etc. The problem is my Dad bought it new so what to do what to do?
Congratulations

Super Cs are worth every dollar put into them. And since your dad bought it new, that makes even more sense.
