Thought INTERNATIONAL HARVESTOR quit making tractors in 1985. Lets face it the name of the company that makes red tractors was Case corporation and is now under the name CNH. We sure don't want to associate our great IH tractors with the name of CASE, do we?

You should as the Magnum was essentially an IH, as was the ENTIRE line of Case IH equipment. From the antiquated Cyclo planter to the Axial flow combine, all the tillage tools, the balers, everything. Case even painted them red. Option B was the complete loss of the entire line. No more dealer parts, no dealer support, no more red paint. Like it or not, the only thing that saved IH was the buyout.

Looking at it, you are probably right. Case would have never made it with tractors alone, and IH was never going to make it through the 80's. They needed eachotehr and the best move Case could have made was keeping the Red stuff around. Try asking an Allis Chalmers man about the Deutz buyout. They lost everything AC had, including the paint color.

Redfan, I read this forum everyday, mainly for educational purposes-trying to learn as much as I can about International Harvester Company & its products. Its great to see all these people working hard at restoring all these old IHs, as well as it is interesting to see all these old IHs working hard everyday faithfully for their owners(Not too many 60 year old products still working as faithfully as the old H & M Farmall-quite a testament to IH ingenuity back then). Hopefully someday I will get into the restoration part of this business. Right now, I spend too much time keeping brand new CaseIH stuff running to be able to deal with restorations. Hopefully that will change down the road.
