When i move the gearshift lever into the 4th gear and release the clutch it moves almost directly back to the neutral position. Where should i start to repair this? Any help would be great.

Adr, you should hear and feel a distict "click" when you shift the tractor into fourth gear and it should take some effort, it shouldn't just "slide" into gear. If that click is absent and it takes no effort to put the machine in gear you could get lucky enough to simply replace the spring under the ball on top of the shift fork that constitutes a "detent". Unfortunately, it's not such an easy thing to replace. The trans cover has to come off, it's heavy and clumsy.

I just fixed the same problem in one of my Hs. I originally rebuilt the frontbearing cage , but the problem was still evident. Next I replaced the shift forks, and still the gear would pop out. I finally just removed the whole transmission, and noticed the real problem, the drive pinion and the fourth and fifth slider were shot.. I really needed to replace everything that I mentioned above, but the replacement of the shift forks and the trans gear and drive pinion, was ultimately caused by the front bearing cage being worn out.. just examine everything, and replace what is ultimately needed.. good luck..

I had the same problem with an M that I bought a couple of years ago. It would not stay in 4th gear and I could not get it into 5th gear at all. I ended up replacing several of the gears in the trans. It looked like someone before I bought the tractor didn't know how to shift it. Good Luck.
