Anyone got experience with replacing felt seals? do you lubricate them or apply them dry. I have several to change on my f-20, got the felts from Rice Equipment, but looking for good procedure so i dont have to do the job twice.

Thanks

Al P.

Generally I don't soak felt seals before installing them. they will get enought oil in them when running. If the seal fits tight on a shaft that rotates be sure to coat the inside of the seal with a light grease or oil. This will prevent a dry spin, or the seal spinning with the shaft during initial startup.

I was just thinking of trying to find a source for
the felt seals my F-20 requires. Thanks for the tip about Rice's. Which ones are you going to replace? I would imagine it is a good idea to
soak them in the same lubricant they'll be exposed to.
