This may be a stupid question, but I'm going to ask it anyway! On the front grill in the lower part is 4" by 10" opening. Through this hole you have access to the vertical steering torque shaft which has a slot cut in it. My question is what is its purpose and is there a cover that goes over the hole in the grill? Kinda new to this and any help would be appreciated.

The cultivator shifter lever goes in there. Joes Farmall Parts has them.

The hole is for an arm that was clamped and keyed to the shaft. It was forked on the end and a linkage fitted to it steered the cultivators with the front wheels. IH used it from the Regular up til the 50 series tractors.
