My Super H has a badly dented oil pan. The rear of it is pushed in considerable. It now only holds about 4 quarts. I need to replace it, but is it OK to run until then???

Is it possible that any other internal parts are damaged or is there nothing actually in the pan itself??

Will the oil pan from an H fit or is it a different part number??

4 quarts versus the normal 6 quarts is really pushing it IMHO.

Bama,
I'd replace that pan or straighten it ASAP. You will be working the oil harder than normal and if the tractor does any hard work it could cause problems. Maybe not right away, but later on. I don't like to run anything without the proper amount of oil in it. It just goes against my nature to abuse equipment.

My 2¢,
Phil

The pan from an H will fit. Some guys Take the old pan off and beat it out from the inside. If there was anything internally hurt you would have known it by now. If it's got oil pressure its OK.

Mine's been like that for years, doesn't seem to hurt anything although I keep meaning to replace it. As long as you have oil pressure and it doesn't leak, just keep an eye on the oil level since you don't have as much reserve as you should.

Thanks for all the replies. I fully intend to correct the oil pan problem, but in this case, I guess I should tell you that the tractor has not run in about 3 years. I just bought it and have no idea how long the previous owner ran it that way.

So far I am still working on getting it running again. It has good compression and I just re-built the carb. I am in the process of replacing all of the ignition components, so it should run soon...then on to the other problems...I think the list is at 12 items that I think need fixing...

So much for bargain basement tractors.

Considering it's current status, I would remove that pan, and investigate. Then pound it out with a block of wood and re-use it. (Unless I could find a new or undamaged one).

Good Luck

I have two fords , 10-20,w30,A, and one white-oliver. as soon as you get it like you want it, it will be time to go shoping for the next one.remove that oil pan and have a look a round.now that its off fix it.take your time and have fun, remember to tell your main squeeze next year you will break up her garden.this will make her happy and you will not have lumpy gravy and burnt biscuts.
