The U-4 is the H engine. It is 152.1 cubic inches rated 31.5 hp @ 1800 rpm. Maximum torque 108 @ 1250 rpm. Compression ratio 5.9/1. It weighed 960 lbs less skids or legs.

The 150 years of IH book has a brief sentence on the U4. Approximately 23,000 were produced between 1940-1953. It had 31.5 brake horsepower. The CID is not mentioned. I would guess it is either an H or M tractor engine. With the O4 tractor having the H engine, I would suspect that the U4 is an H engine derivative though I may be wrong.
