I have a 1949 H that runs execellent but has a fairly profuse oil leak coming down the side of the engine. I am assuming it is a valve cover gasket but was wondering if anyone else has had a similar problem and has another possibility for a leak.

My other problem is when I run in 5th gear on a hard surface road (narrow front tractor by the way) it has a tremendous wobble/shake. It is not as noticeable on gravel unless you are on the crown of the road. What is worn in my steering and how do I fix it?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Brent

If the leak is not coming from the valve cover and it is leaking on the distributor side, it is probably leaking from the rocker arm inspection plate. That gasket gives out about as often as the valve cover gasket. If that is the source, I recommend you pull the oil filter can and cover up that base, then you will have plenty of room to remove the cover. If the rocker arm chamber is really gunked up, this is a good time to remove as much of that old oil sludge that you can.
