I should be able to figure this out, but I just
can't seem to get the float setting right on
my F20 (Zenith K5 carb) Fuel constantly drips out
of the drip plug unless I totally shut off the gas
at the sediment bowl. Am I right in saying that
I don't think the float is shutting off the needle
valve? How do you set the float and know it's right? Also, settings on idle adjustment and
fuel adjustment screws. Anybody out there an
expert on this? would appreciate.

The advice you received so far is pretty accurate. You'll never need to worry about cracking and F-20 head or burning a hole in a piston from this problem.

You have one of three possible problems. The float has developed a hairline crack and is filling with fuel. The needle valve has a groove worn in it and is no longer sealing. Or, the float needs set (I doubt it's this one). Check it out, if you need more help let me know (I have about 10 F-20s and Regulars.

Regularman: I think I solved the carb problem.
You were right about the needle valve not seating.
The float didn't have any fuel in it. Also had
a little interference with the gasket (new) with
the float, but fixed that. Tractor now runs great,
and am getting it ready to take to a few pulls
andd shows. Thanks for your help.

Regularman, The blowing the head and burning a hole in the piston would be from the gas in the oil and making the oil thin.

Bruce,
First, be sure the float isn't dragging on the side of the bowl or hanging up on the bowl gasket. Then look at the needle. If it is a Nitrile tipped needle, it should seal. If it's an all brass needle, you may need to place the needle into the seat and tap it gently to "seat" the two parts together so they seal properly.
Let us know how it comes out.

Phil

I had the same problem on my Super M. Rust builds up in the gas tank and particles get in neddle valve and make it stick. I had to overhaul the carb. Inside the carb overhaul kit it has settings for the float. You need a machinest rule(calipers)to set this. As for set screws, you need to let it run and adjust them until it lets the right amount of gas through. WARNING- The float wiil stick and gas will flow out of the carb. When this happens the tractor will die. take off the air intake pipe and let the gas drain out. take a screwdriver and hit it against the side of the carb to unstick the float. put the air intake back on and turn on the gas. After you get it back in the shed, CHECK YOUR OIL! After mine leaked like that a few times, the oil had so much gas in it it was thinner than water. This is a good way to crack a head or put a hole in the piston. Any way this advice is coming from a 13 year old. But I had the same experience and this is how I fixed it. Good Luck! let me know if it worked. Brandon.
