I have a International 404, and I would like to know what year it was built. The serial # is 9313 J. I have looked this up in several different books I have but they seem to disagree. Any imfo on this tractor would be helpful.

Does anyone know what the "J" stands for at the end of the serial # on my International 404. The serial # is 9313 J.

Thanks Wardner. Are you saying that the "J" on my 404's serial # stands for Rockford Clutch ? If so is this some option ? What other clutches where available ?

J is for Rockford. This is why the parts man always wants to know serial numbers. IH manufactured a clutch but they probably did not have enough production capacity for all of their lines which included trucks. I do not know which one was better.

Your 404 is a 1965 model. They had a C135 engine and 37 HP. Average shipping weight was 3427 lbs.

Thanks Red Man ! You verified what I thought. I was confused though when I bought the 2000 Intertec Used Tractor Price Guide. This book also has serial #'s in it but differs greatly to what I've found on the net. I use my 404 for light brush hogging and other tractor work around our place. I have owned it for 3 yrs. and have loved the way it has performed so far. I just wish it had "live" PTO.Thanks agian. By the way, do you have a International or Farmall tractor.

Yes, I have a 1958 350 Farmall gas row crop of which I am the 2nd owner. It has power steering and fast hitch. I also have a '62 460 Farmall Diesel equipped the same way. Both my tractors have live PTO.
