I have about a 1/4 turn play in my steering wheel. I have taken the steering box apart and there was quite a bit of play in the bushing. The bearing in the bottom of the box seems to be OK. Installed new bushing in the upper housing. Will this new bushing solve my steering problem? Everything else seems to be tight.
Thank you.

In my Super A the ball bearing on the end of the steering shaft had a considerable amount of play and had to be renewed. In the archives there are discussions that focus on the Pitman arm under the housing being loose. There are two Woodruff keys in the vertical wormwheel shaft that might be worn. One connects the wormwheel to the shaft and the other connects the Pitman arm to the shaft. Good luck. Hendrik

The ball bearing on my AV seemed to be in pretty good shape when compared to the play in the new one so I didn't replace it. Am now in the process of fitting the new bushing to the shaft. Will reassemble and check for play. Thanks to Hendrik for his reply
