My F20 had been running OK, but had become
harder and harder to start. Finally died. Will not even pop.
Checked spark, found it weak. Replaced points,
condenser, coil, plugs. Checked carb and re
adjusted. Adjusted valve lash .018. Checked
fuel flow. Good flow to carb, but no gas
getting to cylinders. Discovered that there is
no vaccuum. There's a leak somewhere, right?
But I can't find it. This tractor was running
fine, so whatever happened, happened quick.
As a non-mechanic, I've about run out of ideas.
Can anyone out there help? By the way, did compression check. #1 72 lb., #2, 70 lb., #3 66 lb
#4, 72. Is this high enough? Seems pretty even.

Bruce, Dick is right! Check those tubes that extend up through the valve cover. Since you adjusted the valves you might not have gotten those primer tubes and cups tight. therefore you are probably not getting enough vacuum draw up through your intake, instead it's sucking air through these tubes. I had this problem on my F-20. Good luck.

Thanks, Jason. You were right. Tubes weren't
tight enough. Also, I had replaced the coil and
condenser and got that cog wheel out of sync. There's not much yu can du if yur out of time.
Anyway, I got er runnin' again. Thanks again.

What method did you use to check vacuum? If there is no vacuum check for cracks in the manifold, gaps between manifold and head etc. Are you sure the carb has nothing in the main jet blocking the flow of gas?

Also, check to see if you still have the gasoline priming cups/tubes extending through the valve cover. The lid may have come off one of them,
and the tubes are screwed directly in the intake passages. Some people remove them and plug the holes, yours still may have the tubes and cups in place.
