I recently purchased an IH 340 tractor which was converted to a fork truck. When I bought the tractor it was started and ran fine -- no problems. I have spent a lot of time working on the machine , new paint, wiring, lights etc. Before we started to work on it we did a compression check and got 175 lbs on all 4 cylinders. So far , so good. Yesterday we started the engine and let it run for an hour or so.The engine ran very well the entire time. As it warmed up it began to smoke badly and we noticed a lot of blowby comming from the vent tube. The fresh oil we put in the engine was 4 quarts of high detergent oil and 1 quart of Marvel Mystery oil( the idea was to try to clean up the engine inside, free up rings etc.).The problem is the smoking!! It looks like mosquito control at times!!! Questions????? Will this get better as the engine is run more?? What caused this problem ?? What would be my best course of action?? Thanks

Bruce,
Did you put a multi viscosity oil in the tractor? If so, go back to a straight 30 WT. You may have to change filters real frequently for a while as you have started to cut years of sludge loose. I would not use the detergent oil in a tractor that I did not know the history.

Bruce I have a feeling the Marvel Mystery Oil is the probable cause. I know it will smoke if you mix some in the gas.
