I cant get my A model to run, I have gas, ive got fire to the plugs, i reset the timing, put on new cap and wires, cleaned out the tank, fresh gas, new plugs, had the mag rebuilt, but still cant get it to start. we had it running before with all the new stuff on it, it ran fine then, now its like it wont pick up the gas to the cyclinders, it has plenty of compression. i know my problem may be in the carbuerator. i have soaked it in carb cleaner over night and cleaned it out, still didnt work. What shud i try or do at this point?

A couple of other thoughts -
crank by hand and make sure youre not losing compression around spark plugs. I did last winter, and needed new gaskets. My 41A has a plug just above the carb that I use sometimes to prime with ether - dont bother spraying in the intake, it wont make it through the oil bath. Make sure your new plugs arent fouled already.
Good luck

I had a similar problem, and what Chris says is right on. Crank by hand with an assistant and listen for wheezing by the plugs. They'll leak air, especially if you've had them in and out a few times. If you have no assistant, put a drop of motor oil at the base of each plug: don't pull them, just let the oil run around the base of each. This may be enough to seal any little leaks, or it will bubble and spit if you're losing compression. I did this and my A fired right up on the second crank (cranking by hand)--this after three days of monkeying around to see what it was.
BTW, I think most of the starting fluid just dissolves in the oil bath at the bottom of the air filter if you spray in from above. You could take the bath off the bottom and try sprying up from below, or remove the whole filter and spray into the choke.

Fire a little starting fluid down the air intake.

Brent,
Make sure there isn't a big vacuum leak and that the carb is reassembled properly. If the float isn't right, there may not be gas in the bowl.
Since it was running before the carb was removed for cleaning, I'd check the carb to manifold flange to be sure it's sealed properly, then check the float setting and run a wire through all the holes in the carb to be sure there isn't a piece of rust or other solid crud blocking them.
If that doesen't get it, check the plug wires for proper installation, one or more may be crossed.
I did that once on a car, got the rotation backwards and same story, no start.

Phil

Squirt a little gas in the carb while cranking. If it tries to start, then you need to work on your carb some more. May have to take it apart and run a small wire through all the holes to clear out crud. Double check your timing and firing order. (1,3,4,2). Distributer cap is:

2 1
4 3

Let us know what fixes it.

I forgot to tell you to make sure your fuel line is not stopped up. Disconnect fuel line at carb and make sure fuel is flowing OK.
