About a week or so ago I posted A message about a clicking noise in my H's tranny. Today I drained the case, pulled the pto, looked for bearing parts and put it all back together. I used A screwdriver next to my ear to try to locate the noise more specificaly. I think its coming from the midsection of the tractor. This is the hydraulics right? What could be making this noise in there? Low fluid? Bad bearing? thanks very much for any help

Oh yeah, How much fluid does the tran hold? I put in a five gallon pail and nothing came out from the plug ahead of the clutch. I don't have a book for the h, only one for my super c and that says 5 gallons. thanks

Thanks red. How did you know that that would be the problem? I went out to look for the plate you talked about but I couldn't find one. Apparently the last owner took it off for some reason. I grabed the shaft and then I knew that that was the problem. I could wiggle it and make the same noise I was hearing before. When I went to take it off I found someone's idea of a quick fix. Instead of the proper bolt of pin holding the shaft on each end someone use two pieces of wire. When I had the shaft off I started her up and the noise was gone. Thank you thank you thank you! Now to fix it. What is the right way to hold the shaft in place. Is there just two bolts in the rings or some kind of pin? Thanks again.

Aaron use two 1/4 inch dia. by 2 1/2 inch long cotter pins. I just got lucky on what I thought the problem was.

Could be the constant mesh gear.

Aaron 6 gallons on the transmission capacity.

On the mid noise, remove the plate between the liftall and the transmission and take out the drive shaft that runs the liftall. Then fire it up and see if the noise is eliminated. The liftall holds 6 quarts of hy-tran or non-detergent sae 30 oil.
