300U hydraulics, losing prime

The hydraulics on my 300U seem to be losing prime (suction). I can start the tractor, and if I have no hydraulics, I can shoot some air into the reservoir and the pump primes and the hydraulics work, for a while. I get maybe 10 minutes out of this, then no pressure. I have torn apart the regulator/safety valve and everything looks great, but I could not get the steering safety valve out to inspect it, but I doubt that is the problem. I also recently put helicoils in the stripped threads of the pump, so I don't think it's pulling air thru there. Every time I have lost pressure, it has been with the PTO engaged, but I think that is just coincidence. I'm about ready to hook a compressor up to it full time and pressurise the reservoir just to cure this. Okay, I'm not serious about that compressor idea, but this situation has me flummoxed. Any ideas?

When you bolted the plate that the pipes are welded to back on the pump, did you maybe get one of the o-rings out of position? Just an idea.

I'll have to check that, wouldn't be the first time I installed a seal crooked. It worked fine for about 4-5 hours after I fixed the threads. I'm also going to try overfilling the reservoir by a gallon or so, maybe my dipstick is off a bit.

There is a screen on the suction side of you system. It is in the resavoir. Some times by letting the tractor set a while the crud falls off the screen, and then by using it the crud gets back on the screen be the movement of the oil in the resavoir.

Y'know, I've searched and searched and haven't found it. If I take off the pump manifold, there is no obstruction at all for a good 8 inches or more into the reservoir. I can't imagine I would have to take the top off the reservoir to get at this screen. Please tell me it ain't so...

Beats me where it's located. Keep in mind that this is a Utility, not a Farmall 300, my reservoir is under the seat.

Oh ok. I was thinkin that the resavoir was the same as on the Farmall 300. Well on the Farmalls, its on the right side of the resavoir(as from sitting in the seat) towards the bottom. There are 4 small bolts to take out and the screen comes out. I don't know if the resavoir would be anything similar to the Farmall or not.
