I am just learning the ropes with my new Cub. IH dealer says the manual says to use "low ash" oil in the crankcase. Even has Case-IH oil with "low ash" printed on the lable. Do I really need this oil or can I use a good quality automotive oil like Quaker State, Pennzoil, or Havoline????
Thanks for your advise.

If that tractor has'nt ever been up graded to detergent oil you want to stay with some sort of non-detergent oil for it.

If you start using modern detergent type Pennsoil, Quaker State or simular oils the detergents will break the crud loose in the engine that has built up through the years and will grind down the bearings and rings.

You can use any type of oil you like, as long as you use the recomended weight I assume the cub uses SAE30 just like the rest of the farmalls of the time.. The Case IH oil is the factory recomended oil for your tractor.. The IH #1 engine oil has been around a long time, and is regarded as probably the best around.. I feel that it is always best to use the fluids designed for the tractor, but many will tell you otherwise..
