Too Much Oil Pressure?????

My friend's 22-36 has recently developed a strange habit. When sitting at idle the oil pressure gauge reads about mid gauge, but when the motor is brought up to a higher rpm the oil pressure gauge reads all the way to the high end and stays there. This never happened before, but it would move some with the change of the motor speed but never to this extreme, also it has started to blow a little oil out of the breather tube on the engine block. Any ideas? Thanks, Brian

The first thing I would do is to substitute a know good oil pressure gauge. Most oil pumps have a bypass built in to regulate the oil pressure. I doubt that this is clogged. Most failures occur with the bypass spring breaking resulting is lower pressure, not higher. It is unlikely that at idle that the tractor would make more pressure than the predetermined relief setting. You do have the correct oil in the tractor, right?

Brian, not knowing anything about the 22-36 specifically, I would be concern that an oil passage is partially blocked. I would speculate that the oil heads to the bearings from the pump. It might be best that you drop the oil pan and see if you have a lot of sludge.
