130 voltage question

Friend has a 130 that still runs the 6 volt system but has a 12 volt battery hooked up with a ceramic type voltage regulator in order to kick the voltage down to 6 volts. He has been having a problem in that after about an hours use the motor seems to die off. He replaced the coil once and it seemed to help, but now it is starting all over again. Could the voltage reg. be letting too much current through to the coil and that be causing it to act up? Thanks, Brian

Brian,
If you go to the Antique tractor internet service site you will find a step by step 12v conversion that lists the NAPA resistor part number....when I got my 300U it had a 12v battery and still had the old generator....the generator could not keep up with charging the battery, it would run for awhile and then puke. After doing this a few times the battery would be dead...It's EASY to convert to the alternator and it's far more reliable than the mickey mouse (no offense) set up that is there now.

Brian,
Check the voltage at the terminal of the resistor that's farthest away from the battery. It should be about 7V if it's the right resistor. Someone has posted the NAPA part number for the correct resistor on this board before, so seearch the archives for NAPA and resistor, you should find it.

Phil
